The EU assesses the safety of glucose oxidase from a transgenic aspergillus Niger

On March 12, 2019, the European food safety authority issued opinions on the safety evaluation of the food enzyme glucose oxidase from the genetically modified aspergillus Niger strain ZGL.

It is known that the glucose oxidase produced by aspergillus Niger strain ZGL is intended for use in the baking process. The daily dietary exposure to food enzyme-total organic solids (TOS) was 0.004 mg TOS/kg body weight per day, based on the recommended maximum dosage. After an assessment, the eu food safety authority panel concluded that the food enzyme did not cause safety problems under the intended conditions.
